Life of Irenaeus (jan 1, 130 – jan 1, 202)
Description:
Irenaeus, orginally from Smyrna, and after teaching in Rome, became Bishop of Lyons in 178 AD. He endured the persecution in that area between 202 and 203 AD and was possibly killed as a martyr. He wrote "Against Heresies", stating, contrary to Gnostic teachings, that there were not two gods (one over the physical realm and one over the spiritual), but that God was one.
