Rosa Parks (NAACP) was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person
The movement was ready to respond --> a boycott of city buses
MLK was elected to lead the boycott
2/3 of riders were black, and with strong participation this hurt business when the boycott began
The boycott went on for nearly a year
Violence against the boycott was prevalent
Blacks mostly walked as the boycott went on
The Supreme Court became involved and ruled in favor of the movement
Segregation was outlawed on local buses
