GA 5th Session (sep 20, 1950 – dec 8, 1950)
Description:
Debate structured around opposition of French elections methods (Philippine delegate).
A Five power draft resolution (Doc. A/C.4/L.83/Rev. 1. Proposed by India, Indonesia, Iraq, Philippines, Yugoslavia) recommended that the French administration investigate the various complaints made [against election methods] to ensure that all sections of the population were faithfully reflected.
Argentinian proposal incorporated into the draft: petitions expressing views contrary to those of the CUT also be covered
Request: TC should undertake whatever action it considered necessary in the light of the results of the administering authority’s investigations, even that of sending a special mission to French Togoland, and to report on steps taken in regard to the Ewe question
The resolution as a whole passed without opposition both in the Committee and in plenary.
