Sack of Rome (may 6, 1527 – may 6, 1527)
Description:
As a result of the spread of Protestantism, men in Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor) army rebelled and took Rome by storm and stole priceless items. Pope Clement VII ended up paying a huge ransom, which the Holy ROman EMperor took happily. It is considered to be the end of the Renaissance and an opening for the Protestant Reformation.
