Description:
Childhood more and more seen as a time of dependency and coming under regulation by the state.
The Fisher Education Act 1918 made secondary education compulsory up to age 14.
Children no longer seen as part of the workforce as the requirement for education increased.
Growth of psychology provided greater understandings of ‘child development’.
Over time as more attention was paid to their needs children became generally healthier (and more precious); National Health Service began in 1948.
