In 1968 MIT, Bell Labs, and General Electric decided to team up and build a system allowing multiple users to access the mainframe simultaneously. But Bell Labs pulled out of the project in at the beginning of 1969 because they were not impressed by the progress, and decided that they could to better themselves.Added to timeline:
