Persian Period (jan 2, 539 BC – jan 1, 334 BC)
Description:
The Persians control the ANCE after they conquered the Babylonians and until they are themselves conquered by the Greeks. During this period Jerusalem is also under their control. They were the largest empire in the Ancient Near East at the time of their rule, and they ruled in a large centralized government with "Satraps" appointed by the king as local governors. They interfered very little with the local worship practices of the land they controlled and so Cyrus is referred to as Yahweh's messiah in Isaiah 45:1.Added to timeline:
