Viktoria Savs (jun 27, 1899 – dec 31, 1979)

Description:

She was enlisted in the Austro-Hungarian Army disguised as a man, to fight the Italians in the Alps. While she was carrying a message under fire, a grenade dislodged a boulder which crushed her right leg. Intending to complete her mission, she tried to amputate her own foot with her knife. she then would be hospitalized and discovered to be a woman which ended her military career. She was awarded the silver Medal for Bravery and the Military Merit Cross. She was one of the only two Austrian women on the front lines, the other being Stephanie Hollenstein.
