Flora Sandes (jan 22, 1876 – nov 24, 1956)
Description:
She was an English woman. She volunteered to join a St. John Ambulance unit in Serbia and subsequently became an officer in the Serbian army, the only British woman to officially serve as a soldier in World War I. She was granted the rank of Sergeant major upon her induction into the army and after the war was elevated to Captain.
