Great Northern War (jan 1, 1700 – jan 1, 1721)

Description:

This war was waged by Russia, Denmark, and Saxony against Sweden, ruled by Charles XII. While Sweden initially defeated Denmark and had great success against Russia, Russia was able to win in the end, with the Battle of Poltava in 1709 being a major victory for Russia. Russia joined this war in order to get access to Western Europe, which t did as it conquered modern Latvia and Estonia.
