The first mobile phone prototype, the DynaTAC was introduced at a press conference in New York by Martin Cooper. The DynaTAC (Dynamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage) phone, was 23 cm (9 inches) tall and weighed 1.1 kg (2.5 pounds). It allowed 35 minutes of usage before its battery ran out. It needed to be charged for 10 hours to achieve full battery. Before The DynaTAC, phones existed in cars, starting in 1947 Motorola.
The first commercial cellular network was launched in Japan. Launched by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) in 1979, initially in the metropolitan area of Tokyo. The first phone that used this ' network was called TZ-801 built by Panasonic (a car phone). Within five years, the NTT network had been expanded to cover the whole population of Japan and became the first nationwide 1G/cellular network. 1G used analog, so it only allowed voice calls and not text messages.
The DynaTAC finished development, and was released as the DynaTAC 8000x in the US. Motorola released the DynaTAC at $3,995 (about $11,700 in 2023.) On October 13, 1983, David D. Meilahn placed the first commercial wireless call on a DynaTAC from his 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL.
2G was released in 1991 2G is a short notation for second-generation cellular network, a group of technology standards employed for cellular networks. 2G was commercially launched on the GSM standard in Finland. 2G utilizes a digital communication system instead of analogy, and therefore allows text as wall as calls to be sent. It also encrypts data between the phone and cell tower.

IBM and BellSouth unveil the Simon Personal Communicator, at the Wireless World Conference in November 1993. The IBM Simon is considered the first smartphone, as it featured a LCD touchscreen, and was able to make and receive cellular phone calls. The Simon Communicator was also able to send and receive faxes, e-mails and cellular pages.
3G was released in Japan in October of 2001. 3G was available in May of 2001 as a pre-release. The first network to go live with 3G was by SK Telecom in South Korea in January 2002. 3G has a theoretical maximum data rate of 21.1 Mbit/s for HSPA+. In India, on 11 December 2008, the first 3G mobile and internet services were launched by BSNL.
The iPhone is unveiled at the Macworld convention in 2007. The iPhone had a Samsung RISC ARM CPU, and 128MB of RAM. The iPhone incorporated a 3.5-inch multi-touch display with few hardware buttons, and ran the iPhone OS operating system with a touch-friendly interface, at a starting price of US$499 in the United States, and required a two-year contract with AT&T.
The first android phone, the HTC Dream, announced in September of 2008 at $179 with a 2-year contract to T-Mobile. The device uses a 3.2 inches (8.1 cm) capacitive touchscreen LCD at a resolution of 320×480; the screen can be slid along a curved hinge to expose a five-row QWERTY keyboard. This device features a 528 MHz Qualcomm RISC CPU with 192 MB RAM.

The 4G cellular technology was opened in the two Scandinavian capitals, Stockholm and Oslo. 4G, also known as Long Term Evolution (LTE) offered a peak download of 128Mbits/s and a peak upload of 56Mbits/s. Many devices today still use 4G. As of November 2012, the five publicly available LTE services in the United States.
In April 2019, the 5G cellular technology was released. South Korea was the first country to adopt 5G, however hours later Version launched it's 5G services. The Galaxy S10 5G was the first device to release with 5G.
The latest iPhone, the iPhone 15 was unveiled during the Apple Event at Apple Park in California. The iPhone 15 (base model) has a 6-core RISC CPU, with 2Xperformance cores (3.46GHz) and 4Xefficiency cores (2.02GHz); the iPhone 15 has 6GB of RAM.
The first foldable phone, the Royole FlexPai was unveiled at CES 2018 by the Chinese company Royole.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 phone was announced on January 17 2024 and released on January 31 2024. The Galaxy S24 series features a AMOLED display and 2600 nits of peak brightness. The S24 series uses a variable refresh rate display with a range of 1 Hz or 24 Hz to 120 Hz. The S24 uses a Snapdragon Octa-core RISC CPU and 8 or 12GB of RAM.
The first Google Pixel phone was officially announced. It was released on October 4, 2016 at the Made by Google event and released in the United States on October 21, 201.
Development of the iPhone begins
The first flip phone was released and unveiled in North America, in 1995, by Motorola, the StarTAC. Motorola applied for the StarTAC trademark name in September 1995. Key features include: The ability to receive SMS text messages, a weight of approximately 88 grams, vibrate alert and an optional Lithium-ion battery instead of the previously used NiMH battery.
