The First Hotel opened in 1870 , Isle of Wight opened.1878 was when the first ferry trips from mainland Australia to Phillip IslandTourists started to visit Phillip Island and horse drawn carriages were used as their transportation.In 1927 recreational areas were built such as golf courses on the Summerland penisulaThe first bridge that connected Phillip Island to mainland was build in 1939.After the bridge was made there were increasing amounts of tourists that came to the island over the bridge by car.In 1969 the bridge that now stands was built. increasing numbers of tourists came over the the island on buses or walked across.The Penguin Parade building visitor centre was built in 2019 after the previous centre was demolished and used for penguin rehabilitation.In 1996 the Phillip Island Nature Parks were made and protected natural areas and wildlife.
