The Fall of the Roman Empire - The arrival of the Huns and the migration of the Barbarian tribes was one of the reason why the Roman Empire fell. - From the start, Rome had an organised army. - The Roman Empire was the largest civilisation of it's time.
Norman Invasion of England and Beginning of the Feudal System -The Anglo-Saxon aristocracy lost most of their power under the Normans -The Normans originated from Normandy. Normandy is in the North of France. -The first Norman king was William the conquerer.
Magna Carta issued to King John of England -Rebellious barons forced King John to agree to the Magna Carta. -Many of England's nobles, church leaders and common people disliked King John. -The Magna Carta was a first step in the creation of England's constitution.
The Black Death -It is thought that around 50 million people died as a result of the Black Death. -Some scientists think it was a bacteria called Yersinia pestis that caused the disease. -It was the most deadly disease to exist in the entire world.
Periods
The Early Middle Ages -The middle ages was also known as the dark ages because a designation for the supposed lack of culture and advancement in Europe during the medieval period -There is still a lot of information about the early middle ages that we still don't know about. -The rise of Islam happened during this period of time.
Viking raids and settlement around Europe -The Vikings explored as far as present day Newfoundland, Canada. -Vikings actually didn’t wear horned helmets. -The vikings gave the world a government which serves as foundation for governance in countries all over the current world.
The Late Middle Ages -Peasants were not allowed to hunt on the lord's land. Punishment for killing a deer was sometimes death. -People mostly drank ale or wine. At that time, water was bad and would make them sick. -During the Middle Ages, Europe experienced massive change throughout these years.
Dominance of Catholic Church in Europe -Due to conflicts with the pagan state religion, Christianity spread all throughout the early Roman empire. -The Church also had an issue with corruption, as it mostly seeked wealth and power. -The Church was one of the most powerful authorities in the Middle Ages.
Ottoman Empire at it's peak -Throughout Sultan Suleiman's rule, the empire expanded and included areas of Eastern Europe. -The armistice of 31 October 1918 ended the fighting between the Ottoman Empire and the Allies but did not bring stability or peace to the region. -The Ottoman Empire had control of some of the world's most lucrative trade routes led to their vast wealth.
The Renaissance -Hunting was a popular form of entertainment for the wealthy. -Francis I, King of France, was patron of the arts and helped Renaissance art spread from Italy to France. -New ideas for Europe's culture, art, politics and economy were explored.
Age of Exploration -Some areas of the world were not fully mapped or discovered until well after the Age of Exploration including Eastern Australia, the interior of Africa, the Arctic, and the Antarctic. -Many explorers such as Captain James Cook and Sir Francis Drake searched for a Northwest Passage to East Asia, but it wasn't until 1906 that explorer Roald Amundsen completed the journey. -The Portuguese and Spanish led the exploration and colonialization of the Americas.
