Red Gate Gallery is excited to announce its 30th Anniversary Project – The Memory Wall.
Red Gate is calling on:
Artists who have exhibited in its 30 year program of solo and groups shows, art fairs and collaborations with other partners;
Artists in Residence who have participated in the Red Gate International Residency Program in China and overseas;
Curators and writers who have presented their own take on contemporary Chinese art;
Clients and visitors from everywhere;
Staffers and interns; and more……
to send in their memories of their connection with Red Gate.
The memories could be an invitation card to their first show at Red Gate, photos of the exhibition, the installation process, the dinner, the mandatory group photo, the original catalogue, an open studio in Feijiacun or at 798 Red Gate, that favourite work collected many years ago and a still hanging at home, and in some cases in a museum, newspaper clippings, etc.
Contributions can come in the form of scans, original documents, videos, zip files and so on, and be sent by email and WeChat.
From July to early September we will construct the Memory Wall in the gallery, dredge our own archive, compile and document all the contributions, and in the end have it digitised.
Director Wallace says:
“This project is about thanking everyone who has been part of Red Gate Gallery over the last 30 years. We want to reach out to all our friends to include as many Memories as possible. These Memories will provide a snapshot of the development of contemporary art in China since 1991. These contributions will be complimented with tantalising selections from our own palette of records."
