On 29 July 1975 at 20N 137E, a tropical disturbance emerged from a trough in the Philippine Sea.
On 31 July 1975, the tropical disturbance rapidly developed into a tropical storm as it moved northwest.
The tropical disturbance underwent fiery development, reaching typhoon intensity on 1 August, creating Typhoon Nina.
On 1 August, Typhoon Nina's maximum surface wind speeds increased from 120 km/h to 240 km/h (75 mph to 150 mph).
On 2 August, Typhoon Nina achieved maximum wind speeds 368 kilometres (230 miles) east of Taiwan.
On 2 August, Typhoon Nina attained a peak intensity of 185 km/h (115 mph).
Typhoon Nina made its initial landfall in Taiwan at 0600 UTC on 3 August.
On 3 August, Typhoon Nina had maximum surface winds of 184 km/h (115 mph).
In the afternoon on 3 August, much of the typhoon’s power was lost as it moved across Taiwan’s central mountain range. It made a second landfall near Jinjiang Fujian, Mainland China.
A significantly weakened Nina (peak winds 110 km/h [69 mph]) reached Mainland China during the late hours on 3 August.
On 4 August, Typhoon Nina lost Typhoon characteristics as it moved north in Hubei province.
Typhoon Nina arrived in the east-central province of Henan on 5 August as a tropical storm.
Typhoon Nina Dissolves on 8 August
Periods
The storm brought heavy rainfall as it stalled over Henan for three days. Approximately 1,060 millimetres (41.7 inches) of rain fell during August 5-8.
