The United States declared war on Germany. There were 2 main reasons for the US to enter the war. The first is that Germany sunk a passenger ship and killed 100 civilians. The second which is the real reason the US joined was because of the interception of the Zimmerman telegraph. This was a telegraph from Germany to Mexico telling Mexico to attack America. Because of this America felt the need to join the war. This also meant America reinstated the draft for the first time since the civil war.

In November of 1917 Russia approached Germany and Austria after attempting to pressure Britain and the Allies into a peace treaty. In the city of Brest-Litovsk, located in modern-day Belarus near the Polish border, Russia signed a treaty with the Central Powers completely ending its participation in the great war. The treaty was annulled. By the terms of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to give up its territorial gains from the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Which were claimed throughout the war. This was a clear sign of the Allies' advantage over the central powers
Germany begins its final offensive of the war. The Spring Offensives of 1918 were Germany’s last chance to defeat the allied forces, and thereby win. Their losses by the middle of summer left the German army weak, demoralized and facing its own defeat soon. This offensive lost for many reasons many revolving around incomitance and lack of both manpower and tanks. In addition it is often said that General Ludendorff squandered his best chance at victory by missing British logistical vulnerabilities
Allied and German representatives sign treaty of Versailles. Many voices at Versailles held Germany responsible for the war, wanting the country to be greatly limited economically and militarily, making it incapable of future aggression. The French representative and premier, George Clemenceau was the most vocal of this desire. He called for Germany to pay huge sums of money, known as reparations.
