1597 the capital was renamed to Port of Spain.
1630 the Dutch settled in the country and planted Sugar Cane.
1780 the french captured Trinidad and turned it into a sugar producing colony.
1797 the British captured Trinidad.
1889 Trinidad and Tobago combined as one British colony.
Trinidad and Tobago became independent in 1962.
in 1967 they joined the organization of the US.
1970 there were violent protests, blew up the police headquarters, and held the leaders of the country hostage.
The violent protests come to a stop.
