4th August Germany declared war on France.They wanted To defeat France quickly.German Soldiers march- ed through Belgium to carry out the Schlieffen Plan. THis attack on neutral Belgium angered Britain. Britain had signed a treaty saying that she would fight anyone who attacked Belgium
1st August Germany declared war on Russia. (Germany was sure that France would help Russia.Germany decided to strike first)
3rd August Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia blaming her for the murder of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. But Serbia was allied to Russia and could count on Russia's help and support.
28th July Britain declared war on Germany beause Germany had invaded the neutral country Belgium which Britain had promised to protect.
29th July Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany was very worried.Russia mobilised its army Germany was sure that she would also be attacked by Russia.
