- 23 Aug. to 11 Sept. 1914 - Battle of Galicia between Russia and Austria - Hungary. Russians capture Lemberg.
- 26 to 30 Aug. 1914 - Battle of Tannenberg in which Germans launched a surprise attack on a Russian army
- 7 to 14 Sept. 1914 - First Battle of Masurian Lake in which a Russian army was pushed out of German territory
- 29 Oct. 1914 - Ottoman Empire launched a naval attack on Russia. Entry of Ottoman Empire in WW1.
- 2 May to 22 June 1915 - Gorlice Tarnow Offensive in which the Central Powers defeated a Russian army, recaptured Galicia, and started advancing into Russian terriroty
- July to September 1915 - The Great Retreat of 1915 in which Russian forces retreated in order to shorten the front lines and avoid encirclement of Russian armies
- 4 June to 20 Sept. 1916 - Brusilov Offensive was launched which was an attack by Russians on Austro - Hungarian lines that resulted in total number of A - H casualties to reach 1M and forced Germans to move collect troops from the Western front to support them
- 18 Feb. to 3 March 1918 - Operation Faustschlag was launched by the Germans. Captured territory in the Baltics, Belarus, and Ukraine. Ended Russian participation in WW1.
