Lockerbie started to grow when the landowners ,the Johnston family made plot of land avilible along the highstreetLockerbie had become a significant town and from 17805 it was a staging post on the carriage route from Glasgow to London.Thomas Telfords Carlise to glasgow road was built through Lockerbiethe Caledonian railway opened the line from Carlise to Bettock through Lockerbie and all the way to Glasgow.Lockerbie became known internationally due to the wreckage of the PAM AN flight 301 which killed 277 people 11 of the were residents in Lockerbie and the people on the flight were from 20 different nations.Lockerbie ice rink was built across from Lockerbie Academy and is one of the oldest indoor ice rink in the ukA former Crematory cottage was refurbished and opened which has two exhibit room and a quiet room.A permanent exhibit room display ten history panels depicting Lockerbie past stretching from it's prehistoric origins in 1988 terrorist attack and beyond.Periods
Lockerbie was also railway junction,serving a branch line to Dumfries, known as the Dumfires,Lochmaben and Lockerbie railway which closed in 1952.Lockerbie had been home to Scotland largest lamb market
