BLOWFLIES Blowflies are the first to appear within minutes of death. These insects start as full adults who quickly lay eggs in the nose and mouth of a corpse. .
MITES + ANTS Within 8-18 days later, mites and ants arrive. They are often found eating the unhatched eggs of blowflies. .
SPRINGTAIL + ROVE BEETLES These insects arrive in 19-30 days of a death. They are usually drawn by the rich food source the blowfly eggs provide, however some can and will eat the flesh of the corpse itself. .
SPIDERS + WASPS Soon after, spiders and wasps will arrive to the corpse. The body has now become a bit of a "feeding frenzy". Spiders and wasps will eat off the the insects already present, while the insects continue to feed from the corpse. .
VARIOUS INSECTS As a body mummifies, or dries out, other insects may show up. These insects include beetles, such as the Saprinus Gilvicornis, Necrobia Rufipes, and Dermestes Maculatus.
