Mt. Vesuvius erupts and destroys Pompeii. The dust from the eruption buried Pompeii under a thick carpet of ash, killing 2,000 people. Pompeii had some of Rome's most distinguished citizens before the city was destroyed.
Constantine baptized as christian- just before his death, Constantine was baptized as a christian. He died from a terminal illness.
Twelve Tables Created- In the year of 450 BC, the twelve tables were created. These are laws that were made by the Romans.
Rome split into 2 empires- In this year, Rome split into 2 empires: the eastern and the western. The eastern part was owned by Diocletian, and he gave the western part to his brother, Maximian.
Nero watches as Rome burns- in july of 64 AD, a deadly fire burned for six days, killing 70 percent of the city.
Circus maximus begins- in this time, circus maximus, which was a place used for entertainment, started being constructed.
julius caesar assassination- on this day, julius caesar was killed by roman senators.
constantine becomes ruler of Rome- at this time, constantine finally became the ruler of rome.
coliseum built- at this time, the ancient rome coliseum was built. It was used as an entertainment arena for the citizens to go watch and enjoy.
hadrian's wall was built- at this time, Hadrian's wall was built. This wall was for separating the Romans from surrounding enemies and to keep people from going either in or out.

Etruscans take over Rome- Starting in 600 BC, Rome was conquered by many Etruscan princes from across the Tiber River. This domination continued until 509 BC, when the Etruscans were driven away by the Latins.
Spartacus leads revolt- Spartacus and thousands of other slaves escape and begin a revolt that ends up causing his own death not much time later.
Trial and crucifixion of Jesus- sometime in this time period, Jesus was crucified.
First Triumvirate rules Rome- this political alliance was formed to rule rome. The three men in it were Julius Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Gnaeus Pompey.
Second punic war- this war was fought between carthage and rome and it lasted from 218-201 BC.
first punic war- this was a war fought between carthage and rome and it lasted from 264-241 BC.
