1966-Dr. DeBakey implants
the first successful LVAD1969-Dr. Cooley swipes DeBakey’s total
artificial heart and implants it into a
Haskell Karp, who dies soon after1971-Robert Jarvik begins
working with Kolff to develop
a better artificial heart1982-The Jarvik 7 was
implanted into Barney Clark1985-Bill Schroeder was implanted
with the Jarvik-7 and lived for
620 days after the implant1988-Robert Jarvik starts Jarvik Research
to develop Jarvik 2000 LVAD2000-Peter Houghton is the first patient
to receive a permanent Jarvik 2000 FlowMaker.
He survived for 7 years with the device.
