1989: Iran-Iraq War ends
1981: Release of American hostages coincidentally during the inauguration of Ronald Reagan
1978-1979: Opposition to the shah and secret police (SAVAK) grows dramatically
February 11, 1979: Khomeini arrives in Tehran and immediately attains power
January 1979: Political unrest forces the shah to leave.
