The first ever coin operated video game was installed at Stafford university. It cost over £20,000 to build a computer called the DEC PDP-11 and a vector display terminal.
Atari developed Pong in 1972 which when released became the first commercially successful coin operated video games selling over 35,000 units
Gun fight was released, this was the first game that used a microprocessor.
Taito corporation released Space Invaders this became a very popular arcade games. From 1978 to 1982 arcade games became much more popular.
Atari released Asteroids which was one of the most popular arcade games and is their most sold arcade games.
Donkey Kong Jr
The most popular game ever, Pac Man. This game sold over 350,000 arcade cabinets.
Donkey Kong was one of the first platform games, being the second game to have multiple levels.
The Nintendo Entertainment System was released
The Sega Master was released
More people started switching to home console because of these releases
Street Fighter 11 was released by Capcom. More fighting games like Virtual Fighter and Mortal Combat became hugely successful.
The industry slowed down at this point as not many games were released
1999 was when different arcade games came out including Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. This boosted the arcade games industry. You played the game by using pressure sensitive arrows on the floor.
Simulation games have been created since like Strike Fighter, Racing games and Hunting games
