Eliza Brodess sent out a reward for Harriet and her two brothers. They were worth $100 each and equaled up to $300.
Harriet was sent to the store where she saw a boy running from his overseer. The overseer asked Harriet to grab the kid, but she told him no. The overseer threw a weight to stop the boy, but missed and hit Harriet in the head by accident. She was left with several problems after being hit.
Harriet died in Auburn, New York on March 10, 1913 at age 93. Her cause of death was pneumonia.
Harriet Tubman was born straight into slavery in 1820. She was born in Bucktown, Maryland. There is a sign there today that marks it as her birthplace and describes what she did.
Harriet worked as a spy and nurse for the Union during the Civil War. She let the Union know the locations and movements of the Confederates. She was never paid for all that she did.
Harriet is shown with a scar on her head. It's a constant reminder of the day she almost died. She was struck on the head with a weight when a overseer missed and hit her instead of the kid running from him.
Harriet was moved into a rest home that was named after her where she later died of pneumonia.
Harriet told about she has a choice of liberty or death. She said if she doesn't get one she will get the other. She will fight for liberty until she can't do it anymore. When the time comes, she will be ready to die.

In 2002, a middle school class went on a trip to a museum. While they were there they had found that Harriet had never received back pay. They wrote a letter to Senator Hillary Clinton. This got votes from Congress and they voted for her to get her back pay. All of the money was given to the Harriet Tubman Home.
Minty married John Tubman in 1844. She took his last name and this was also the time she changed her name to Harriet.
After escaping from a plantation in 1849, she spent her time freeing slaves. She was the start of the underground railroad. As she got older she resided in a home that was named after her and she died there at age 93 in 1913.
