In 1973, Martin Cooper, CEO of Motorola developed the first hand held cell phone.
In March 1983, The first cell phone for commercial use was developed by Motorola, priced around $4,000.
In 2002, The first Blackberry hit the market, it had a full keyboard and was able to send emails and print.
In 2004, Motorola introduced the Razr, it was a very thin and compact smart phone that was iconic during it's time.
In 2007, the first iPhone was announced, it changed the industry forever, it combined a cell phone, an MP3 player, as well as a touchscreen all in one. It sold over six million units.
In 1993, IBM Simon, who many consider to be the first official smartphone was developed.
In 1946, Bell Systems created the first mobile telephone system. The equipment was large and weighed upwards of 80 lbs.
In 1999, The Japanese company, Kyocera's cell phone was released. It was the first cell phone that included a built in camera.
