1829: Graham's Diet, introduced by Sylvester Graham. Graham crackers, bread, and flour were invented due to his diet. The diet consisted of fresh fruits, whole wheat and high fibers food, which he believe would help give humanity pure thoughts.
1917: Calorie counting, introduced by Lulu Hunt Peters. Made a book on calorie counting, called Diet and Health: With Key to the Calories. First weightloss book to become best seller. She was the first person to popularize that calorie counting was a method of weight lost.
1950: Grapefruit diet, introduced by Hollywood actors, leading to the name of the, "Hollywood Diet." Diet is based on the fact that grapefruit burns the fat-enzymes. The diet helps but can cause health problems if used too frequently.
1961: Calories don't count diet, introduced by Herman Taller. Published the book "Calories Don't Count". Discovered the diet by advocating low-carb diets with polyunsaturated fats like sunflower oil.
1976: Sleeping beauty diet, introduced by Jacqueline Susan, in her novel Valley of the Dolls. The diet said that if you slept for a while, you would wake up thinner and sleep off the wait since you would be sedated and not thinking about hunger.
1986: Rotation diet introduced by Martin Katahn. Wrote the book, the Roation Diet, describing the diet. There is a daily calorie intake resulting in an average weight loss of 13 pounds a person. The city of Nashville participated and the city as a whole lost almost a million pounds.
2000: Raw food diet, introduced by Brian Clement. Believe that since these foods have not been cooked, they have not lost their nutritional values, and are more healthy because they are natural to the body.
2005: Cheater's Diet introduced by Dr. Paul Rivas. Discovered that if people cheat on their diets, they will end up losing more weight. He said, "its not whether you cheat on your diet, but how and when you do it." Diet requires foods like chocolates and other deserts.
2006: Maple Syrup diet, introduced by Stanley Burroughs. Claimed that the maple syrup cleaned the body, included weight loss, had a resistance to illnesses, with increased energy and clear skin.
2010: Baby food diet introduced by Tracy Anderson. The diet is a way to cut portions and calories. Instead of meals, eat a couple snacks, with two or three baby food bowls throughout the day. The jars have around 20-100 calories.
