President Andrew Jackson announces the end of the Civil War.
Abraham Lincoln elected as President
South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida secede from the United States to create the Confederate States of America
Confederate forces attack and take over Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. This begins the Civil War.
Battle of Bull Run (also known as the Battle of Manassas). A huge loss for the Union Army.
The Union Army wins a major victory at the Battle of Antietam.
President Lincoln issues the Empancipation Proclomation, which gave freedom to slaves in all 10 Confederate states.
Battle of Gettysburg. A huge victory for the Union Army and the turning point in the Civil War.
Union General Sherman begins his "March to the Sea". The Confederate Army is weakening and suffers many losses to Sherman and the Union Army.
