The first use of DNA that was admissed in court. The evidence was observed by Prof. Alec Jeffreys. two Rape/Murder charges were put onto the 17 year old when DNA evidence said othwise. The correct man was put into prison for the charges.
The first US case to use DNA evidence was the case of Tommy Lee Andrews
It was ruled that all Scientific evidence must be sufficiently established enough in it's field to gain wide acceptance by the people in the community to be allowed in court.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation created CODIS, a DNA database
All 50 states now have their own DNA databases
Virgina was the first to pass a law that said all felons had to put their DNA into the database. This later became useful in coldhit cases.
32 States now require felons to imput their DNA into a system by law
