Kevin Poulsen - 1991 Kevin hacked a telephone line to a radio station to ensure that he was the 102nd caller so that he would receive a fancy prize, a new Porsche sports car. He was sent to prison and was the first ever person to be banned from using the internet or a computer from a court sentence.
Kevin Poulsen Again - 1995 This time, he tried to do the same tactic to win tickets to Hawaii however, he was caught and given a 51 month prison sentence.
Computer Misuse Act 1990 The Computer Misuse Act passed in the United Kingdom which makes it a criminal offence to illegitimately gain access to computers
Fist DEF CON - Jun 1993 The first hacking convention which occurs annually in Las Vegas
Russians - 1994 Russian hackers steal money from a bank and transfers it to other accounts in Finland and Israel which were mostly recovered by the US who sentenced the leader of the Russian group with a 3 year prison sentence
US DOD Attacks - 1995 In 1995, hackers tried to gain access to the US Department of Defence's computer files about 250,000 times with about 160,000 attempts being successful
Yahoo! Malware - Dec 1997 It was announced by Yahoo! in January 1998 that users who were active in December may have downloaded malware from hackers who threatened to activate logic bombs and/or worms as they wished for infamous hacker Kevin Mitnick to be released from prison.
Kevin Mitnick Arrested - Feb 15 1995 Kevin Mitcnick was caught by the FBI after being on the run for a few years for crimes such as stealing passwords to networks and computers as well as intercepting computer and telephone transmissions and gaining unauthorised access to private emails and reading them (not Hillary's).
