1852 Massachusetts enacted the first compulsory attendance law requiring 12 weeks of school

1909 First junior high was established in Columbus, Ohio

1957 Urgent demand for new curriculum and teaching techniques emerged after the Soviet Union launched the first satellite

1798 Group of black parents petitioned the School Committee to protect their children from the hostile environment.

1806 School Committee changed it's position and opened a segregated school

1846 black parents start petitioning to desegregate schools

1954 Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka

1839 Normal Schools were established in Lexington, MA to prepare teachers for elementary schools
