Democritus was born in 460 B.C. He died in 370 B.C. He was among the first to suggest the existernce of atoms, but his ideas weren't based on Scientific Method.
John Dalton 1766-1844 A chemist and school teacher that would further develop Democritus's ideas. He came up with his own atomic theory.
J.J. Thomson discovered the electron. He discovered electrons through the cathode ray.
Robert Millikan performed the oil-drop test which lead to him discovering the quantity of an electron's charge.
Eugen Goldstein discovered the proton by using a cathode-ray tube.
James Chadwick discovered the neutron which would be the 3rd subatomic particle to be found.
Rutherford performed the Gold-Foil experiment which lead to the discovery of the nucleus.
