1990 The term “Scholarship of Teaching” is introduced in "Scholarship Reconsidered" by Ernest Boyer.
1995 Barr and Tagg published “The Learning Paradigm” adding “Learning” to The Scholarship of Teaching and began to shape the field.
Late 1990's-Early 2000's Carnegie Foundation president Lee Shulman and Pat Hutchins created The Carnegie Academy for SOTL to further develop ideas within the higher education community.
1999 The Carnegie Foundation’s work on SOTL begins to take hold at Indiana University. Support and excitement for the cause begins to spread.
2001 SOTL program at Indiana University received a $5000 grant from the American Association for Higher Education to continue research.
2002 A $35,000 grant was introduced at IU for SOTL research and endeavors.
2004 The first ISSOTL conference was held at Indiana University and was attended by over 400 scholars from eight countries.
2005 Two IU faculty were elected to the ISSOTL executive committee.
2007 ISSOTL moves overseas hosting the annual conference in Sydney, Australia.
2006 A second $35,000 grant was added at IU for SOTL research and endeavors.
2009 The sixth ISSOTL conference is hosted at IU.
2015 Twelve SOTL research projects were conducted at IU from ten different disciplines.
