The Philippines faced a humanitarian crisis with 1.9 million homeless and over 6 million displaced
A large storm surge 4m high made worse by a bay which funnelled the water to the city, hit Tacloban City, this killed far more people than the high winds.
Less affected areas report that their population almost doubled due to the influx of refugees
causualties were reported as a lack of aid in the affected area
