Start of the internet Creation of ARPANET
Internet becomes available to the public
Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf create the TCP/IP protocol and it is adopted by ARPANET
The first domain is registered; Symbolics.com
Computer scientists such as Dave Farber talk about expanding accesibility to the ARPANET, they discuss building an inexpensive network by using dial-up for connection. The PhoneNet system is built from this.
3Com announces an Ethernet product for workstation computers followed by a version for personal computers in 1982.
ARPANET is split into two seperate entitles: MILNET to serve the needs of national defense and the military community and the ARPANET which is used by academics and researchers. ARPANET and Defense Data Networks begin to use TCP/IP protocol.
ARPANET is decommissioned. Tim Berners-Lee, Robert Cailliau and other CERN scientists create the World Wide Web and create HTML and URL.
