1917 : The Bolsheviks take power in Russia.
1922 : The Soviet Union is formed and Ukraine becoms one of its republics.
1924 : After Lenin's death, Stalin takes power.
1928 : Stalin introduces his program of agricultural collectivization, famers need to give up everything. He begins his industrualisation plans.
1929 : Some Ukrainian farmers still refuse to join collective farms. Stalin introduces the policy of class warfare against kulaks. They begin to liquidate everyone considered a kulak.
1930 : 1.5 million Ukrainians fall victim to Stalin's dekulakization. Half a million are deported to uninhabited areas in Siberia; most of them die.
Summer 1932 : A decree is implemented : arrest or execution of any person found taking any food item in the fields where they worked.
1932-1933 : Erection of military blockades around Ukrainian villages, preventing the transport of food. Brigades sweep through villages and confiscate all food. Stalin wants to deal a "creushing blow" to the backbone of Ukraine : its rural population.
June 1933 : People are dying at the rate of 30,000 a day, mostly children under 10.

1932-1933 : The Soviet Government increases Ukraine's production quotas to be sure they are not met. Starvation becomes widespread.
1932-1934 : 4 Million deaths are attributed to starvation in Ukraine. Stalin denies everything and continues to export millions of tons of grain, killing millions of people.
1918-1920 : Russian Civil War
