Telharmonium 1898 - This was an early electrical organ. It was invented by Thaddeus Cahill. However it cost a huge amount of money as it was the first of its kind. It used tone wheels to trigger sounds. It was largely unsuccessful as it was impractical and interfered with telephone lines.
Theremin 1928 - Patented by Soviet inventor Léon Theremin. It consists of two antennas that sense the relative position of the thereminist's hands.
Ondes Martenot 1928 - Consists of a touch sensitive keyboard and a slide - wire glissando generator. It evolved a huge amount between 1928 and 1980. No break in the sound produced.
Hammond Organ 1935 - Used draw bars with 6 settings, each responding to the harmonics of the note played. Very portable in comparison to the Telharmonium. It was still in production until 1975. Used tone wheels similar to that of the Telharmonium.
