Student Protests in Tiananmen Square: May Fourth Movement (1 gen 1919 anni – 1 gen 1921 anni)

Descrizione:

Cause (International): Many Chinese students became angered by the weak government response to Japanese territorial demands and the Western enablement of these demands. As a result, many local and national movements were formed to protest against the Chinese government's actions.

Effect (International): These protests sparked what became known as the May Fourth Movement, and contributed greatly to Chinese nationalism and anti-Japanese resentment. These sentiments were also directed at the inability of the Chinese authorities to resist these developments

Cause (Domestic): As a result of the Japan victory in WWI, they were able to secure their former German colonies in China as their own territory.

Effect (Domestic): Japanese encroachment on China caused Chinese students to spark the May Fourth Movement, in which there were strikes and boycotts against Japanese goods and resulted in the death of the China's minister of communication and minister to Japan (both pro-Japanese officials).
