18th Amendment (Jan 16, 1919) The 18th Amendment made the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol illegal. However, it did not outlaw drinking or possession of it. It ended up causing many illegal operations to pop up, selling alcohol. It was repealed in 1933.

Tulsa Massacre (May 31, 1921 - Jun 1, 1921) After a young African American man was accused of assaulting a woman in an elevator, newspaper articles are released suggesting a lynching. African American military veterans come to his aid, and a shot is fired accidentally. Chaos begins, black people are killed in the streets, and incendiary agents are dropped from planes on their town. Everything is burnt to the ground and the town never recovered fully.
First successful heart valve surgery (1923) The first sucessful heart valve surgery was performed by Eliott Cutler. It was performed on a 12-year old girl with rheumatic mitral stenosis. Though it was acclaimed as a milestone of medical prowess, the surgery's mortality rate was too high to be effective.

Black Tuesday (Oct 29, 1929) Black Tuesday was the final of three crashes in the stock market. Black Thursday and Black Monday came before, but the market was able to recover. After black Tuesday, however, the market continued to suffer until it reached a low point in the Great Depression.
Emergency Quota Act (May 19, 1921) The Emergency Quota Act was passed when immigration began to drastically increase. It established a quota system which created a maximum number of immigrants that could come from different countries each year. It was revised in 1924 to limit new immigrants to be equivalent to 2% of the existing population of their nationals in the US.
