Hooke develops simple compound microscope.
Importance:
The microscope was the tool used to further the cell theory. Without it cells would not have been able to be observed at all.
Hooke's microscope made it much easier to observe things at the microscopic scale.Hooke discovers cells.
Importance:
This discovery is what started the journey towards the development of the cell theory.
If cells had never been discovered then there would be no theory to describe them.Anton van Leeuwenhoek observes bacteria.
Importance:
Anton's observation's of bacteria were some of the earliest observations of living cells. It also showed that more than just plants consisted of cells.Matthias Schleiden concludes that all plants are made of cells.
Importance:
This discovery provided evidence for the first part of the cell theory.
The first part states that all living things are made of cells.Theodore Schwann concludes all animals are made of cells.
Importance:
Provided more evidence for the first part of the cell theory. Added another kingdom to the list of those that are ultimately composed of cells.Rudolf Virchow finishes the cell theory.
Importance:
Virchow confirmed the part of the cell theory about cells coming from other cells. This settled the debate between Schwann and Schleiden.
