Cause (International): Japan became desperate for territorial expansion in order to seek new natural resources and establish foreign market places, as well as encourage immigration to acquired lands to handle overpopulation
Effect (International): After seeing Manchuria as a "lifeline", Chinese decided to conquer Manchuria and Kwantung Army sparked the Mukden Incident to put Chinese in a worse state and make it more politically instable and therefore easier to conquer.
Cause (Domestic): lieutenant in the Japanese Kwantung Army detonated a small amount of dynamite on a section of railway near Mukden; Japanese blamed the Chinese for it in order to gain rationale in taking over Manchuria
Effect (Domestic): succeeded for awhile but League of Nations investigations followed, resulting in public condemnation of their efforts by the League and several other countries.
