3 gen 1853 anni - Commodore Matthew Perry arrives at Japan's Coasts

Descrizione:

Cause (International): US President Millard Fillmore sent Commodore Matthew Perry with the goal of forcing trade relations between US and Japan and ending Japan's long period of isolation.

Effect (International): Out of fear that the US would treat Japan and humiliate them just like Britain had done to China after the Opium Wars, they signed the Convention of Kanagawa of 1854 with Matthew Perry.

Cause (Domestic): Japan had a policy of isolationism, and for several years stuck to its traditional roots while also showing stubbornness towards absorbing western culture or influence.

Effect (Domestic): As a result of isolationism they rarely established trade with other countries, eventually prompting Matthew Perry to sail from the USA to Japan's harbors and force trade between the two countries.
