4 nov 1856 anni - Across the peninsula, Maori were reduced to living on insufficient reserves
Descrizione:
In the years previous they had "shown how skilled they were at farming and trading... [they] had produced excellent crops of potatoes, wheat, maize, pumpkins and marrows, bartering these for European products... they also bred pigs and later grazed stock. They were excellent gardeners and bushman. With the severe reduction of their cropping, grazing and foraging lands, a people who had begun prosperously as farmers now found they had insufficient land to support them".
