15 nov 2018 anni - IDP Meeting with Ms. Starfish Boss was unsure what some assignments in IDP entailed

Descrizione:

Had a meeting with my supervisor where we discussed my IDP and new performance measures. I asked questions regarding what the work entailed for two of my assigned projects, which were Resolve PO&M PFR/ CFR recommendation Install diff relaying 52A 52B breakers and Resolve PO&M PFR/CFR recommendation replace breakers. She said she did not know what the work entailed and to work with JR (engineering scheduler planner) to find out more information. This is concerning to me as how am I going to be evaluated if my supervisor does not understand the work. Below is a list of things that have been said that I fine concerning.
Confusing Statements made by Supervisor
May 31st 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
I gave my supervisor a tour of the power plant. I started to explain the different protective relays that were being used in the plant and started to point at them. She explained to me that this was dangerous as I could cause the relay to mis operate. This made no sense to me as we have micro-processor based relays and even if I did touch one of the relays no damage would be done to it simply by pointing. This might be the case if I was dealing with an electro mechanical relay, which could be more sensitive, but I doubt that a slight touch would cause a mis-operation even for an electro-mechanical relay.
Between Mid-June and Early July
I was given the assignment to program a PLC to control lighting for the theaters in the visitor center. I was given Allen Bradley SLC 504 PLC, which utilizes the DH+ protocol. My supervisor approached me when I was working and asked if my PLC was in BACNET. This was extremely confusing to me and I stated to her that this was an Allen Bradley PLC that utilizes the DH+ protocol. I later discovered BACNET is a protocol used for different controllers for HVAC and lighting. This statement was concerning to me as my supervisor has expressed knowledge on Allen Bradley PLCs, but does not understand the main protocols they use to communicate.
Around the dates 6/20/18 to7/18/18
Me: Asked about taking a breaker maintenance class
Supervisor’s Response: Breakers are all the same they are just larger or smaller. That is something you can read about online.
Around Late July
When discussing books that I need to order for the Professional Engineering Power Exam, which is an intensive 8 hour specialized exam. Supervisor suggested I get the book Basic Electricity to bring to the exam. This seemed strange to me as an entry level college book would not be of much use for a specialized 8 hour exam focusing specifically on power system related topics.
Around late July or early August in operations meeting
Supervisor stated in a meeting the power factor for N0 House generator doubled. Power factor for a generator cannot increase without the unit being modified. My supervisor was misquoting a TSC engineer when he said the power factor for the insulation was twice the amount of the A0 house generator.
8/1/18 One on One Meeting
Supervisor told me I could not do things one at a time in regards to tasks and learning the facility. That was something as GS-5 could do, but not a GS-11. In this same meeting I asked about one of my newly assigned systems, which was a Boat Light System. She stated she did not know what the work entailed for that particular item.
8/31/18
Supervisor asked me to get one line diagrams for 480 VAC system. When looking over the drawings with my supervisor she seemed unable to recognize what drawings were one line diagrams. She told me to check with one of my co workers to make sure that they were one line diagrams.
Around 9/12/18
Discussed with supervisor issues with loss of communication between fire alarm panels in the facility that happened the weekend before labor day.
Supervisor suggested that a redundant communication path would be needed. I stated I was unsure if that was possible, but I would investigate it. Supervisor suggested that I might need to use an “EEPROM Bit Flip”. This did not make any sense to me nor did it make any sense to my mentor Mike Ireland. After talking with the fire alarm contractors I found out a redundant secondary path was not possible if one set of fibers failed, but that the panels could be wired in a ring bus so that communication could still be maintained essentially accomplishing the same thing.
Around 9/27/18 one on one meeting
Was told by supervisor its dangerous to walk around the facility as a means of familiarizing myself with equipment. During this same meeting I was told I was not being responsible by prioritizing learning the facility this year and working to become a COR I next year. It was never explained how I was not being responsible.
In this same meeting I was told that because I used the word I believe when referencing the NEC code she said that when I was a subject matter expert, but that when I was I would use the word I know. This statement is confusing to me because I think it’s strange to expect someone to have a code book memorized. A code book is used for reference such that you do not need to memorize anything
Around mid-October in a one on one meeting
80% of faults are phase to phase. This is incorrect. 80% of faults are single phase to ground. During this same meeting she referred to sudden pressure relays as new technology. These devices have been around since at least the late 60s.
