Operation Torch (8 nov 1943 – 10 nov 1943)
Description:
The US and British were pressured by the Soviet Union to Open up a second front to reduce the German forces on the Eastern Front. An attack in north-west Africa would supply support for Allied forces in Egypt. This invasion would also secure Allied naval control of the south-west Mediterranean and enable an invasion of Southern Europe which occurred in 1943.
