Battle of Stalingrad (23 août 1942 – 2 févr. 1943)
Description:
The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the longest and most brutal battle throughout WW2. Germany decided to fight against Soviet Union for the city of Stalingrad for one reason. It was one of the largest industrial cities, this being a prize in itself for the German army. Capturing and ruling this city would give the army a direct drive into the oil fields of the Caucasus, the Caucasus was the mountain system lying between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
Hitler had originally planned to just take over the city of Stalingrad but thought that capturing both the city and the mountains would be even better.
The two forces battled it out for a very long time, somebody had to lose and fortunately for the Soviet Union and the rest of the world, Germany had lost. After the Germany's heart-wrenching lose, Germany decided that they wouldn't strike another attack at Soviet Union again. The people of Soviet Union were very patriotic and praised the men for their literal blood sweat and tears that each and every men put into defending their country. Stalingrad was them name the 'Hero city' of Soviet Union for its defence of the motherland.
