Description:
This was a conflict in 1898 between Spain and the United States. This war was fought mainly for the Cuban independence from Spain. The main causes of this war were the cuban rebellion against Spain, yellow journalism, the explosion of the USS Maine and the DeLome Letter. The effects of this war were that Spain lost most of its empire, the Platt Amendment allowed the U.S. to intervene in Cuba, and the U.S. acquired Guam, the Philippines and Puerto Rico. In addition to gaining all the land, the U.S. increased its strength as a world power.
