Who:
Perpetrators were the Young Turks, an extreme Turkish nationalist group, lead by Talaat Pasha. They wanted a pure Turkey.

Victims were the Christian Armenians, labeled as infidels by the Muslim Turks. At the end of 1880, the Armenians wanted more rights, but instead of being granted they received a violent massacre. The Genocide began in 1915 when Turkish officials rounded all Armenian intellectuals and executed them. Then, they began mainly deporting the rest of the Armenians, sending them on death marches.

Number Killed:
Nearly 1.5 million Armenians


During this time, the president of the United States was Woodrow Wilson. He did not want to put America in WWI and refrained from helping the Armenians.
