Description:
The League of Nations (French La Société des Nations) was the predecessor to the United Nations and was founded in 1920, after World War I.
CAUSES
The Central Powers such as Germany, Austria, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria were pitted against by the victorious ally system (in which the League of Nations was formed upon) included Russia, France, Britain, America and Italy. Because of the losses (during World War 1) of nations in their alliance such as Italy and Russia, they wanted to secure their allies and keep their countries secure.
The League of Nations was created by the allied leaders of the victorious countries (France, America and England) and was formed to avoid another World War from occurring. Issues would be discussed in hopes of preventing them to escalate.
EFFECTS
The League of Nations was supposed to resolve conflicts and prevent wars, yet it ended up having a much smaller effect than what it was created to be and resulted in WW2.
The United Nations replaced the League after 26 years. By the end of the Second World War the league inherited several agencies and organisations.
